Title
Reed House & Mont Hopkins Blacksmith Shop
Description
At far right of photo is the blacksmith shop. The sign reads "Hopkins and Son Horseshoing - Plow Work". It would have been at 1005 West Exchange Street, Brodhead, Wisconsin. The building at the end of the block was The Reed House. It later became the home of Helen Beckwith, and would have been at 1007 - 1009 West Exchange Street. The home at the left belonged to George Pierce, and is still standing. The address is 1009 West Third Avenue. The water tank on the left was used to fill the street sprinkler tank, to keep the dust down. The blacksmith shop became the Mauermann Impllement Building in 1936, with an address of 1003 West Exchange Street. Frank Mauermann was an Allis Chalmers farm machinery dealer.
