Brodhead Downtown Fire
Description
On Friday night February 8, 1907 a fire destroyed the southeast half of the 1000 block of downtown Brodhead, Wisconsin. The fire started when a leaking gasoline stove was lite and an explosion occurred. It started in the T. Hellerud Saloon. Businesses destroyed were 2 barber shops, 2 temperance halls, a billiard hall, a bowling alley, a laundry, and a cigar shop. 2 families were also left homeless. The fire department had trouble fighting the blaze because the two nearest hydrants were frozen. Three fireman were badly injured fighting the fire.
